When you think of Hangzhou, you think of West Lake. Every city has at least one “must-see” spot that you simply have to visit. West Lake is one of those places you can’t miss if you’re visiting Hangzhou.

Why?

• It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011,

• It is the only lake in China to hold this distinction,

• It embodies one of the Four Beauties of Ancient China (Xi Shi),

• According to CNN, it is one of the 12 most beautiful places in the world to watch the sunset,

• Its layout, according to some opinions, influenced later Japanese and Korean garden design and truly reflects the idealized fusion of humanity and nature.

The area is divided into several sections, each with its own theme. Its unique beauty, numerous sights, and rich flora and fauna offer plenty of opportunities for excursions in every season for both locals and visitors.

It’s not difficult to get there; every map, Metro stop, and street sign clearly indicates (in English as well) the West Lake area.
