The City God Pavilion (Chenghuang Pavilion) is one of Hangzhou’s most iconic buildings. It is located on Wu “Mountain,” near West Lake and Hefang Street.
There are several paths leading up to the pavilion. The trail through the “forest” is dotted with resting areas and both natural and man-made stopping points.
The building does not have a very long history; it was built in 1990. Including the ground floor, it has 7 stories and is approximately 41.6 meters tall.
The first and second floors host an exhibition featuring colorful carved wooden panels illustrating the life of the Song Dynasty, famous figures, and 10 folk tales. The upper floors feature a teahouse, a café, and a restaurant, as well as a stunning panoramic view of the city.

The pavilion’s shady and cool garden is a place for rest, relaxation, and retreat. The “Wishes Temple” building located in the garden,  where you can purchase wish tags and attach them to the bell next to the temple. Ringing the bell brings good luck, and you can also toss coins into the small frog-shaped fountain next to it.
